Synopsis[]
Agent Petty's revelation tests the loyalties of Marty, Ruth and the cartel. Despite the FBI closing in, the Snells refuse to destroy their poppies.
Plot[]
The FBI finds Charlotte's half of the $10,000 she took. Roy brings it up during Marty's interrogation in the hopes that he will turn informant. Roy also informs him that Ruth tried to kill him by wiring the dock the same way she did when she killed her uncles. Roy makes Ruth look like an informant.
Driving away from the interrogation, Helen suggests that the Snells need to destroy the poppy crop to which Marty agrees. At their farm, Helen tells the Snells to burn their poppies so Roy will not find any evidence, but Darlene resists. Darlen asks Wendy to use her connection with Charles Wilkes to help her adopt a baby boy.
Charlotte tries to convince Jonah to give her his half of the money she took to buy a van and run away, but he rejects the idea.
Agent Petty is at the Byrde's house when Wendy and Marty return home, insinuating all sorts of stuff, and revealing that he knows about the affair.
Later that night, Helen stops by the Byrde's house. Showing her a photo of Petty talking to Ruth, Helen asks Marty whether Ruth can be trusted. Marty hesitates before saying yes.
Afteward, he races to the Langmores to warn Ruth. Ruth admits that she tried to kill Marty but says she will not try again because circumstances have changed. Just then, Helen's crew rolls up. Initially, Cade tries to hold them off at gunpoint, but lays it down quickly. Marty vouches for Ruth to Helen, but Helen's associates subject Ruth to waterboarding interrogation. Ruth does not crack, and Helen tells Marty she is impressed with Ruth's willpower.
At the same time, Wendy brings Darlene adoption information, which is really just a ploy to give Buddy access to the Snell farm to burn the field. He fills their fertilizer-spraying tractor with gasoline to get the job done.
