Synopsis[]

Plot[]

In a flash forward, Wendy and Marty are being interviewed about the casino plan. Wendy answers every questions optimistically, but Marty seems distracted.

Days earlier, Marty and Wendy talk about Rachel wearing a wire from Roy. Wendy forbids Charlotte to work at Blue Cat and told Marty not to return to the bar, but Marty wants Rachel to still work at the bar to give misinformation to Roy.

At the bar, Marty and Rachel pretend to talk casually about what happened yesterday between them while secretly texting from their phones. Rachel begs Marty to protect her from the cartel, which Marty reluctantly refused since the cartel didn't trust him either since the raid.

Cade and Ruth meet with Cade's associate who asks them to get him an expensive infrared camera system from a boat for $10,000 in 2 days. While scouting the lake to find the boat they could rob, Cade asks Ruth about Marty's money, which Ruth says she's working on since she still doesn't know for sure where Marty keeps his money.

Marty talks with his lawyer about a coming interview with a lifestyle reporter from the Kansas City Star, in which she suggests that he and Wendy must play along despite the scrutiny from FBI. Marty attempts to call Wendy, but he gets no answer. He tracks Wendy's phone and it leads him to a grass field. When he sees her car, it is deserted with the doors open and another tire tracks. Suspecting the Snell's kidnapped Wendy, Marty angrily confronts Darlene at the farmer's market, who denies every accusation from him.

Unbeknownst to Marty, before Wendy can meet him, she was kidnapped by Mason Young who brings her to his home. Mason believes Wendy had something to do with Zeke being taken away from him, which she denies. She offers to help him get his son back if Mason allows her to call Marty. Mason calls Marty on the phone and demands that he bring his son back to him tonight or he will kill Wendy. Marty calls Wilkes, who reluctantly agrees to help for Wendy's safety.

While being held captive by Mason, Wendy discloses that the bones found in Snell's farm indeed belonged to Grace and Jacob replaced the bones with his ancestor after threatening the coroner.

Marty and Wilkes go to social services and convince the administrator to give Zeke to Marty as a temporary guardian. The administrator agrees to their request; Zeke will be given to Marty in 10 days, but Marty talks him into doing it today due to the fact that Mason has suffered so much loss from his life over the last three months.

After being uncuffed to use the bathroom, Wendy strikes Mason on the head when his back is turned, knocking him down. When she runs, he easily overtakes her, then restrains her again in the basement. She reveals more about her life; when she was a teenager, she committed many sinful activities such as drinking, sex, and drugs, all before she was 15 years old. She ran away from her home after her church Pastor was disappointed when he told him that she had abortions.

That night, Cade and Ruth return to steal the boat's camera. Before they finish, the boat's owners unexpectedly emerge from the house, forcing them both to hide in the water under the dock. They leave empty-handed and Ruth tearfully apologizes to his father for ruining their burglary, and Cade comforts her. Ruth tells him she might know where Marty hides his money: the funeral home.

Marty goes alone with Zeke to Mason's home and gives Zeke to him while he goes to basement to free Wendy. Before he does, Mason holds Marty at gunpoint demanding that he takes Wendy with him in order to to protect her from Marty. Wendy tries to calm Mason down before she stabs him with screwdriver. Marty grabs the gun and is forced to shot Mason in the neck when he threatens to kill Wendy. Marty tries to stop the bleeding, but it's too late as Mason bleeds to death. The Byrdes later clean up the basement of Mason's blood. Wendy helps Marty overcome a panic attack.

They cremate Mason's body at the funeral home, then take Zeke home as a foster child. Marty later casts Mason's ashes into the water at his dock. The Byrdes use Zeke to help present a likable family image during a news interview arranged by the public relations representative trying to create positive coverage of the casino project, as seen in the episode's beginning.
